How to Use the Random Number Generator
Enter the lowest and highest numbers you want, both included, and choose how many to draw. Tick No repeats for raffles and giveaways so that every result is different; the tool warns you if you ask for more unique numbers than the range contains, for example 10 different numbers between 1 and 5. Tick Decimal numbers when you need values such as 3.1416 rather than whole numbers.
How Random Are the Numbers?
Numbers come from your browser's cryptographically secure generator (crypto.getRandomValues), not the predictable Math.random. Whole numbers are drawn with rejection sampling, so every value in the range has exactly the same chance and past results have no effect on the next one. Nothing is sent to a server.
Example: Picking a Giveaway Winner
If 250 people entered a giveaway, number the entries 1 to 250 in the order they were received. Set the minimum to 1, the maximum to 250, how many to 3 and tick No repeats to get one winner and two alternates. Recording your screen while you draw is the easiest way to show the result was fair.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the same number come up twice?
Yes, unless you tick No repeats. With repeats allowed, every draw is independent and each number has the same chance every time, just like rolling a die.
Is it fair enough for raffles and giveaways?
Yes. Each number in the range is equally likely and the results cannot be predicted in advance, because they come from a cryptographically secure source. For transparency, record the draw or share your screen while you generate.
Are the minimum and maximum included?
Yes. A range of 1 to 10 can return both 1 and 10. In decimal mode the result can fall anywhere between the two values and is rounded to 4 decimal places.
Can I use it to make a password or PIN?
It works for short numeric codes like a PIN. A strong password, though, needs a mix of letters, numbers and symbols, so use the Password Generator for that.
